A military graveside service, under the direction of the Hopkins County Military Coalition, for W. O. Shockey, age 72, of Sulphur Springs, will be held at Como Cemetery, at 2:00 p.m., Wednesday, February 4, 2009. Rev. Elton Boubel will be officiating. There will be no formal visitation.
W. O. Shockey passed away Tuesday morning, February 3, 2009, at East Texas Medical Center in Tyler. He was born in Grapevine, on April 4, 1936, the son of George Arnold and Nettie Edwina Jimerson Shockey. He married Sue Neal Boyd in Sulphur Springs, on January 15, 1983; she survives. Mr. Shockey was retired from the United States Army. He was of the Baptist faith and he was a Mason.
Other survivors include: five sons, Raymond Shockey, Ray Shockey, both of Como, Bill Shockey, Bobby Shockey, both of Sulphur Springs and John Shockey of Killeen; two daughters, Diane Brown of Vine Grove, Kentucky and Gloria Shockey of North Dakota, two step-sons, Mike Boyd of Houston and Randy Boyd of Tulsa, Oklahoma; step-daughter, Theresa Boyd of Como; brother, Orin Shockey of Fort Worth, two sisters, Delores Perry of South Lake and Octtie Hardin of Hearst; ;17 grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, first wife, Soou Shockey and one step-grandchild.
