A funeral service for William Pickett, age 82, of Sulphur Springs will be conducted at Murray-Orwosky Funeral Home Chapel, at 2:00 p.m., Saturday, September15, 2012, with Rev. Fred Lewis and Billy Jack Pickett officiating. A military graveside service, under the direction of the Hopkins County Military Coalition, will follow at City Cemetery. Serving as pallbearers will be Keith Bell, Kirt Bryan, Brandon Burks, Terry Edwards, Elvin Harry and Bobby Putman. Honorary pallbearers will be Jimmy Don Goldsmith, Max Parker, Robert King and Eric Vigil. Visitation will be from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., Friday, September 14, 2012 at Murray-Orwosky Funeral Home.
William Pickett passed away Wednesday afternoon, September 12 2012 at Hopkins County Memorial Hospital. He was born in Sulphur Springs on January 18, 1930, the son of Berl Pickett and Wilma Fay (Cowan) Pickett. He married Virginia Elizabeth Humphrey in Sulphur Springs on December 17, 1951; she survives. He was retired from Winburn Milk Company and a member of the Church of the Nazarine. He served in the United States Army during the Korean Conflict and was a lifetime member and a former chaplain of V.F.W.
Other survivors include: daughter, Alice Fay Shelton and husband Johnny, of Tyler; sons, Billy Jack Pickett and wife, Karen and Delbert Pickett and wife, Cheri, all of Sulphur Springs; grandchildren, Josette Bell and Keith, Amanda Vigil and Eric, Letitia Hughes, Amy Petty, Chelsea Pickett and Aaron Pickett and great-grandchildren, Emma and Annette Hughes, Brooke Wayne, Saqqara and Corbin Vigil and Scott and Robert King. He was preceded in death by his parents and one grandson, David Lee Pickett. Memorials may be made to the Hopkins County Animal Protection League.
