A funeral service for Wanda Wallace, age 74, of Cumby will be conducted at Murray-Orwosky Funeral Home Chapel at 2:00 p.m., Friday, March 8, 2013, with Rev. Jim Moore, Rev. Harvey Snider and Rev. Richard Deteau officiating. Interment will follow at Mt. Carmel Cemetery. Visitation will be from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., Thursday, March 7, 2013 at Murray-Orwosky Funeral Home.
Wanda Wallace passed away at Baylor Medical Center in Dallas, Wednesday morning, March 6, 2013. She was born in Gober, on July 12, 1938, the daughter of Vernon T. Arterbury and Birdie A. (Woods) Arterbury. She married Marshall Wallace in Durant, Oklahoma on May 17, 1976; he survives. She was an executive director of Cumby Housing Authority and a member of Cornerstone Baptist Church. She was president of Black Jack Grove Sisters for 15 years, church clerk for Cornerstone Baptist Church for 15 years; tax counselor for 36 ½ years, previous member of Lions Club of Cumby, real estate and insurance broker for 12 years, Cumby city judge for five years and a member of the city council of Cumby.
Other survivors include: daughters, Therisa Goodwin of Greenville, Mary Taylor and husband, David, of Orange and Teresa Birchfield and husband, Howard, of Sulphur Springs; sons, Vernon Wayne Melton and wife, Shirley, of Caddo Mills and Jimmy Wallace of Sulphur Springs; grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her father and mother, Birdie Fullenwider; sister, Doris Soper and daughters, Tammy Melton, Cora Lynn McAbee and Nancy McClure; son Roger Melton and grandson, Randy McClure.
