Violet Hettich

Graveside funeral services for Violet Hodge Hettich, age 100 of Winnsboro will be 11:00 a.m., Tuesday, October 21, 2014 at Shooks Chapel Cemetery with Dr. David Rose officiating with Donnie Alexander, Jody Hettich, Brangus Winkle, Harrell Hettich, Rick Harrison and Colter Hettich serving as pallbearers. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at Murray-Orwosky Funeral Home.
Violet was born July 20, 1914, in Lone Oak, Texas and passed away on October 19, 2014 in Winnsboro, Texas. Her parents were Henry Lester and Mary Willard Hodge. She was the only daughter and the youngest sibling of Moxie Hodge and Jewel Hodge. The family moved to Sulphur Springs while Violet was a small child.
As a young adult Violet worked in Sulphur Springs for Dr. Stevens and Dr. Ray Hannah as a receptionist and bookkeeper. Walter Hettich returned to Sulphur Springs after serving in the Army during WWII. He came into the doctor's office for an appointment and met Violet. He soon asked her for a date and the couple married December 21, 1946. They were blessed with twin sons, Wilburn of Winnsboro, and Milburn of Como, Texas.
Walter and Violet lived and raised their sons in the same house in which she had lived growing up. Walter worked as a plumber for numerous years, later going to work for and retiring from Rockwell International in Sulphur Springs. Violet was a homemaker, taking care of her boys and her mother, who lived with them until her death in 1970. Violet was able to remain in her home after Walter passed away in August of 1994. She later moved to Como, Texas, living near Milburn.
Violet became a resident of Whispering Pines in May 2014. Her son, Wilburn, visited her daily.
Violet was blessed with 2 sons and their wives, Milburn & Jan of Como, and Wilburn & Karen of Winnsboro. There are 5 grandchildren, Kelli Alexander and husband, Donnie, Jody Hettich and wife, Lisa, of Winnsboro, J. Scott Hettich and wife, Kristi of Mexico, Meredith Rule and husband, Walter, of San Antonio and Courtney Hettich of Como. She has 12 great-grandchildren and 1 great-great-granddaughter.
Violet was preceded in death by her parents and two brothers, Moxie Hodge and Jewel Hodge.
