Velma Owens

Funeral services for Velma Ruth Houston Owens, age 82 of Sulphur Springs, will be conducted at Central Baptist Church at 2:00 p.m., Thursday, July 2, 2015 with David Brewer and Rev. Bruce Stinson officiating. Interment will follow at Restlawn Memorial Park, with Rick Ables, Gary Ables, Bill Owens, Dale Owens, Larry Owens, Ronnie Owens, Ron McKeown, Tommy Houston, and Dean Owens serving as pallbearers. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service at the church.

Velma passed away Sunday, June 28, 2015 at Washington Regional Medical Center in Fayetteville, AR. She was born in Hopkins County, TX on March 26, 1933 the daughter of Ezra C. and Rosa Bell (Duncan) Houston. She married Buford Owens on February 15, 1953 in Sulphur Springs. He preceded her in death. She was a retired Loan Information Officer from First National Bank and member of Central Baptist Church.

Survivors include: son, Mike Owens and wife Donna of Bedford; daughter, Donna Bass and husband Gordon of Garland; grandchildren, Bobby Belt, Matthew Owens and Jonathan Owens.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; two brothers, Elwood Houston and J.C. Houston; two sisters, Hazel Murray and Verna McKeown; and grandson, Jeffrey Belt.
