Funeral services for Thurman L. Fox, age 83, of Sulphur Springs, will be held at Murray-Orwosky Funeral Home Chapel, at 10:00 a.m., Monday, December 8, 2008. Interment will follow at Restlawn Memorial Park. Visitation will be held from Noon to 2:00 p.m., Sunday, December 7, 2008, at Murray-Orwosky Funeral Home.
Thurman L. Fox passed away Friday, December 5, 2008 at Sunny Springs Nursing Home in Sulphur Springs. He was born in Ranger, on October 23, 1925, the son of Wesley Plymouth and Ruby Collins Fox. Mr. Fox was a plant operator for Chevron. He was a member of the Methodist Church, the American Legion, V.F.W. and Sulphur Springs Country Club. He served in the United States Army during World War II. He was an M.I.A. for three or four months before they were notified that he was captured on December 19, 1944 during the Battle of the Bulge. He was held prisoner in a German camp for the remainder of the war. He was golf champion at the Sulphur Springs Country Club in 1974. He played fast pitch softball as a pitcher for the Wichita Falls Holts, who were the Texas State champions in 1956.
Survivors include: daughter, Nancy Kirkpatrick (Bob) of Yantis; son Mickey Fox of Mt. Vernon; special friend Stella Snider; numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, great-great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by daughter, Carolyn McBroom, one brother, one sister and one granddaughter. Memorials may be made to the Salvation Army and/or the Scottish Rite Hospital.
