Sherry Lynn (McCrimmon) Buchanan

Sherry Lynn (McCrimmon) Buchanan gained her angel wings on Sunday, February 23rd, after a lengthy illness. At the time of her passing, she resided in Sulphur Springs, Texas, with her loving husband and devoted caregiver, Danny Buchanan.

Sherry was born on September 12, 1952, in Port Smith, Virginia, where her father was stationed in the US Navy. The family moved to Minden, Louisiana, in 1960 where Sherry grew up and she graduated from Minden High School in 1972. After high school, she attended and graduated from Northeast Louisiana University in Monroe, Louisiana. Sherry was a sports enthusiast and was an avid tennis player in high school. To earn extra money, she provided tennis lessons to other students at NLU and after college at the YMCA, while living in Baton Rouge, Louisiana.

Sherry was a kind, compassionate individual who never met a stranger, put others before herself, and she wore her heart on her sleeves. She was a strong follower of Christ having accepted Him as her Lord and Savior at a young age. Her goal in life was to help others who were not as fortunate as herself. Though not financially wealthy in man’s eyes, she and Danny had unmeasurable riches in Christ. She had an overwhelming heart and love for others and wanted them to know the joy of following Christ. She often donated money, food, clothing, and her time to help those in need (many of whom were often strangers) something she continued to do until she passed away.

Sherry worked at several large companies including Exxon and Southwestern Bell (now AT&T). On October 21, 1989, Sherry married the love of her life, Danny Buchanan, from Mt. Pleasant, Texas, at Parkway Baptist Church in Minden. Sherry set aside her career to support Danny who had a very successful high school girls’ basketball coaching career, they moved multiple times throughout Texas until he retired. She never complained about the new adventures and fully supported Danny’s career. She traveled with him to Austin, Texas, where his team participated in the state playoffs. Sherry and Danny were inseparable, and they truly loved and supported each other.

Those left behind to celebrate her life are her husband, Danny Buchanan; sister, Susan (McCrimmon) Stell and her husband, Rodney Stell of Waco, Texas; brother, Mike McCrimmon of Henderson, Nevada; niece, Amy Stell Sielaff (Steven) of Waco, Texas; niece, Laura Stell Horvath (Cedic), nephew, John Austin McCrimmon (Keilene) and son, Owen, of Salt Lake City, Utah, and Matthew McCrimmon of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma; great nieces Reagan and Lydia Horvath, and great nephew, Grant Horvath all of Manor, Texas.

Sherry is preceded in death by her mother, Eileen McCrimmon; father, John Cole McCrimmon; and brother, John A. McCrimmon. 

A family memorial service will be held in the coming months. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that you take time and be intentional in helping someone in need in remembrance of Sherry.
