Funeral services for Sam Henry Ray, age 68, of Sulphur Springs, will be conducted at Murray-Orwosky Funeral Home Chapel, at 2:00 p.m., Monday, July 6, 2009, with Rev. Neal Cochran, Rev. Fred Lewis and Rev. Annie Waggoner officiating. Interment will follow at Caney Cemetery in Pickton, with Kenneth Self, Jr., Brack Davidson, Anthony Doyle, Chris Self, Felton Eppars, Brian Doyle, Ronnie Pady and Sam Kolbe serving as pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers will be Ray Kirkpatrick, Kenneth Self, Sr., James Palmer and W. G. White.
Sam Henry Ray passed away at Baylor Medical Center in Dallas, Wednesday evening, July 1, 2009. He was born in Como, on July 25, 1940, the son of John O. Ray and Linie (Johnson) Ray. He married Joyce Marie Harkness in Sulphur Springs, on December 22, 1979; she survives.
Mr. Ray was retired from Palmer Truck and Trailer and he was a member of The Lighthouse Church.
Other survivors include: two daughters, Wanda Lance and husband, Bobby, of Sulphur Springs and Terrie Pady and husband, Ronnie of Porter; five sons, Ronnie Ray, Russell Ray, both of Naples, Eddie Miskell of Conroe, Ricky Miskell of Houston, Michael Kolbe and wife, Carrie, of Sulphur Springs; mother, Linie Ray, of Sulphur Springs; four sisters, Pat Griner and husband Joe, Cordie Rogers, all of Sulphur Springs, Nell Wyly and Mildred Parkinson, both of Tira; grandchildren, Leland Shirley and wife, Christy, Natalie Pady, Ronnie Pady, Tiffany Miskell, Brittany Kolbe, Samuel Kolbe, Chelsa Watley, Danielle Watley, Michelle Ray, Brianna Ray; sister-in-law, Gloria Lyons and husband, Anthony; brothers-in-law, Philip Doyle and wife, Paula and Bobby Harkness and daughter-in-law, Debbie Ray.
He was preceded in death by son, Michael Wayne Ray; father, John O. Ray; sister, Eda Mae Ray and two brothers-in-law, Alton Wyly and Leroy Rodgers.
