Roxie Gaines

Funeral services for Roxie Iola Gaines, age 97, of Ennis, formerly of Cumby will be 2:30 p.m., Sunday, December 27, 2009 at First Baptist Church of Cumby with Bro. Bob Mashburn officiating. Interment will follow in the Long Cemetery with Randy Pugh, Landon Pugh, Logan Pugh, Sid Laxson, Ted Pearce, and Justin Taylor serving as pallbearers. Visitation will be one hour before the service at First Baptist Church of Cumby.
Roxie Iola Gaines passed away Thursday, December 24, 2009 at the Odd Fellows and Rebecca Nursing Home in Ennis. She was born in Sulphur Springs on December 1, 1912, the daughter of Benjamin Logan and Ethel Elaine Nichol. She married Hubert Anderson Gaines in Hopkins County on November 27, 1927. He preceded her in death in 1984. She was a seamstress for Shirey's Lingerie Manufacturing and a devoted member of the First Baptist Church of Cumby.
Survivors include: one daughter, Verda Marie Pugh of Ferris; grandchildren, Jo & Sid Laxson, Brenda & Ted Pearce, and Randy & Rebecca Pugh; great grandchildren, Angie Laxson, Natalie Pearce, Kimberly & Justin Taylor; great-great grandchildren, Alexis & Austin Taylor.
She was preceded in death by four brothers, Robert, Roy, Earl and Sheppard Nichol, and two sisters, Ruby Martin Tedford, and Merle Neas.
Arrangements are under the direction of Murray-Orwosky Funeral Home.
