Robert Birney

A memorial service for Robert Wolfe Birney, 73, of Sulphur Springs will be held at Murray-Orwosky Funeral Home Chapel, Friday, May 2, 2014 at 2pm. Military honors will be conducted by the Hopkins County Military Coalition. No formal visitation is scheduled.

Robert Wolfe Birney died Wednesday, April 23, 2014 in Paris, Texas. He was born August 23, 1940, in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, the son of Elwood Howard and Margaret Marie (Langille) Birney. He married Lisa Cooksey on June 14, 1996 in Morro Bay, California. He served in the United States Marines. He was a police officer for 22 years for the Los Angeles, California Police Department and was awarded the Medal of Valor. He was a charter member of Volunteers on Patrol of Sulphur Springs.

Survivors include: wife, Lisa Birney of Sulphur Springs; son, Robert Birney, Jr. of Georgia, four daughters, Christina Garaan , Stephanie Birney, Stacy Warneke, all of California and Kristin Lester of Sulphur Springs; 12 grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; brother, Michael Birney and ten stepbrothers and stepsisters.

He was preceded in death by his parents and brother, Bud Birney.
