Funeral services for Richard Wakeman, age 73, of Sulphur Springs will be held at 2:00 pm, Sunday, January 26, 2014 at League Street Church of Christ with Hansen Wakeman and Jerry Savage officiating. A Military graveside service under the direction of the Hopkins County Military Coalition will follow in the Shooks Chapel Cemetery with Kevin Penson, Joe Anderson, Gary Williams, Reggie Blevins, Jr., James Hall, Mike Comer, Allen Martin, and Jeff Carpenter serving as pallbearers. Grandsons will serve as honorary pallbearers. A Visitation will be held from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m., Saturday, January 25, 2014 at Murray-Orwosky Funeral Home.
Richard Wakeman passed away on Wednesday, January 22, 2014 in Sulphur Springs from injuries from an auto accident. He was born in Overton, TX on December 27, 1940, the son of David N. Wakeman, Sr. and Edna Trammell Wakeman. He married Linda Anderson; she preceded him in death in 1997. He later married Shirley Huffstuttler. He served in the United States Army and was a self employed Carpet Installer.
Survivors include: his wife, Shirley Wakeman of Sulphur Springs; daughters, Wende Wakeman of The Woodlands, Sonya Smith & husband, Carl of Sulphur Springs, and Elaine Merrell & husband, Doug of Sulphur Springs; sons, Hansen Wakeman & wife, Candes and Calvin Robinson of Sulphur Springs; brothers, Ramon Wakeman of Coffee City and David N. Wakeman, Jr. of Pensacola, FL;
fifteen grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents and his first wife, Linda Wakeman.
