Funeral services for Roy Alcorn, age 80, of Sulphur Springs, are scheduled for 2:00 p.m., Thursday, March 20, 2008, at Murray-Orwosky Funeral Home Chapel. Rev. Al Daivs will officiate.
A military graveside service will be conducted following services, by the Hopkins County Military Coalition, at Black Oak Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Mike Alcorn, Steve Alcorn, James Alcorn, Ronald Alcorn, Anthony Alcorn, David Alcorn, Bryan Alcorn, and Chris Alcorn. Honorary pallbearers will include Ed Woodard, James Heard, Randal Nichols, and Robert Nichols.
Visitation will be from 6:00 t0 8:00 p.m., Wednesday, March 19, 2008, at the funeral home.
Mr. Alcorn passed away on Tuesday morning, March 18, 2008, at Hopkins County Memorial Hospital. He was born in Greenville, on September 5, 1927, the son of Venus T. and Mabel I Glenn Alcorn. He married Audrey Fay Laminack, in Rockwall, on October 5, 1946. She survives.
Rev. Alcorn was a retired minister and a member of Grace Family Church in Sulphur Springs. He served in the U.S. Navy.
Other survivors include: a sister, Betty Caudle, of Yantis; and three brothers, James Alcorn of Garland, W.F. Alcorn of Hartsville, South Carolina, and L. Lannie Alcorn of Yantis.
He was preceded in death by three brothers, W.D. Alcorn, G.N. Alcorn, and Thurman Alcorn.
