Funeral services for R. A. Watkins, age 82, of Pine Forest, will be held at Murray-Orwosky Funeral Home Chapel, at 2:00 p.m., Thursday, November 20, 2008, with Keith Kilmer and Michael Moore officiating. Interment will follow at Pine Forest Cemetery, with Jason McGregor, Brian Humphrey, Jon McGregor, John Walker, Richard Watkins and Robert Watkins, serving as pallbearers. Visitation will be held from 6:00 p.m. to 89:00 p.m., Wednesday, November 18,2008 at Murray-Orwosky Funeral Home.
R. A. Watkins passed away Tuesday morning, November 18, 2008 at his residence. He was born in the Pine Forest Community, on July 29, 1926, the son of Roy A. and Jessie Richey Watkins. He married Mary Sparkman in Tyler, on December 20, 1948; she survives. Mr. Watkins was a dairy farmer. He was a member of the League Street Church of Christ and he was a Mason. He served in the United States Army and the United States Navy during World War II and the Korean Conflict.
Other survivors include: two daughters, Diana McGregor and husband, Eddie, Doris Humphrey, all of Pine Forest; brother, Weldon Watkins and wife, Jerry, of Picton; sister, Pinky Cooper of Sulphur Springs; grandchildren, Jason and Marika McGregor, Brian Humphrey, Jon McGregor, Amanda and John Walker; six great-grandchildren,Nigel MCGregor, Liam McGregor, Georgia McGrgor, Chloe Fisher, Avery Humphrey and Addison Humphrey. He was preceded in death by brothers, Robert Watkins and Leonard Watkins and sisters, Reba Attaway, Jo Oliver and Ima Jean Doucette. Memorials may be made to Hospice at Memorial.
