Funeral services for R. L. (Roy Lee) Rawson, age 87, of Sulphur Springs, will be held at Murray-Orwosky Funeral Home Chapel, at 3:00 p.m., Sunday, May 11, 2008, with Rev. Charles Ethridge officiating. Interment will follow at Shooks Chapel Cemetery , with Tommy Rawson, Chad Rawson, Leslee Rawson, Michael Rawson, David Rawson, Gary Crowell and Chris Gibbins serving as pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers will be the deacons of Pine Tree Baptist Church in Winnsboro. Visitation will be one hour before the service.
R. L. (Roy Lee) Rawson passed away Thursday afternoon, May 8, 2008, at Sulphur Springs Health & Rehab. He was born in the Adarin Community, on March 7, 1921, the son of Roy Lee and Jewel Martin Rawson. He married Johnnie Fayne Gibbins in Sulphur Springs, on July 27, 1940; she survives. Mr. Rawson graduated from Sulphur Springs High School in 1939. He attended East Texas University in Commerce. He owned and operated a dairy farm for 40 years in Martin Springs and Winnsboro. He served in the United States Army Air Corps during World War II. R. L. was ordained as a deacon in Martin Springs Baptist Church in 1945 and later served at Pine Tree Baptist Church in Winnsboro.
R. L. loved life and enjoyed it to the fullest. He was a loving husband, father, brother, uncle and friend. He will be greatly missed.
Other survivors include: brother, Jean Rawson and wife, Velma, brother-in-law, G. W. Gibbins and wife, Carolyn, all of Sulphur Springs; special couple, E. J. and Patsy Morris of Winnsboro; several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by daughter, Linda Rawson Lawson; two brothers, Son Rawson and Robert Rawson and one sister, Fay Maurice Brady.
Memorials may be made to the Pine Street Baptist Church Building Fund.
