Funeral services for R. A. Long, 91, of Sulphur Springs will be conducted at Murray-Orwosky Funeral Home Chapel, at 10:00 a.m., Saturday, December 17, 2011, with Rev. Ray Evers and Rev. Larry Jordan officiating. Interment will follow at Gafford Chapel Cemetery, with Monty Tipps, Beaxton Akins, Roy Singleton, Keith Edwards, John Champagne and Ray Flemens serving as pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers will be Don Phillips and Robert Brantley. Visitation will be from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., Friday, December 16, 2011 at Murray-Orwosky Funeral Home.
R. A. Long passed away Wednesday, December 14, 2011 at his residence. He was born in Hunt County February 12, 1920, the son of Elmer Long and Ester (Rolf) Long. He married Delynn Yarbrough in Brashear October 12, 1946. She preceded him in death in 1995. He was a retired state highway maintenance worker and a member of Trinity Harvest Church of God. He served in the United States Air Force during World War II.
Survivors include: son, Randell Long and wife Dottie of Sulphur Springs; daughter, Sharon Shaw and husband Jay of Coppell; brother, Roger Long of Amarillo; grandchildren, Stewart Long and wife Tammy, Ronnie Long and wife Marion and Roman Asbill and wife Angela; great-grandchildren, Quentin long and wife Jessica, Cassie Long Chenault and husband Matthew, Skylar Long, Peytin Long, Josiah Asbill, Judah Asbill and Jacob Asbill, brother-in-law, L. M. Yarbrough of Athens and sister-in-law, Evelyn Yarbrough of Sulphur Springs. He was also preceded in death by two brothers, J. W. Long and Lathan Long and sister, Dorothy Gene Akins. Memorials may be made to Trinity Harvest Church of God and/or The American Heart Association.
