A funeral service for Ozell Roy (O.R.) Pettit, age 92, of Sulphur Springs, will be conducted at 1:00p.m., Wednesday, December 19, 2012 at Murray-Orwosky Funeral Home Chapel. A military graveside service under the direction of the Hopkins County Military Coalition will follow at Shooks Chapel Cemetery. Gene White, Brian Mathes, Stacy Cody, Tom Howell, Robert Carpenter and Kenneth Stovall will be serving as pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers will be Mike Russ and Randy Seigler. Visitation will be held from 6:00p.m to 8:00p.m. Tuesday, December 18, 2012 at Murray-Orwosky Funeral Home.
Ozell R. Pettit passed away Saturday morning, December 15, 2012 at his residence. He was born in the Flora Community on September 3, 1920, the son of John Pettit and Ida (Newberry) Pettit. He married Bobbie Jean Beckham in Sulphur Springs on June 7, 1946. She preceded him in death in 2004. He was a retired aircraft metal fitter for Lockheed Martin and a member of First Baptist Church. He served in the United States Army Air Force during World War II.
Survivors include: two sons, Alan Wade Pettit and Brenda of Albuquerque, New Mexico and Greg L. Pettit and Sean of Dallas; brother, Eugene Pettit and Darcie of Garland and grandchildren, Amanda Lowe and Adam, Alex Pettit and Tessa Pettit; and great-grandchildren, Grace and Joyanna Lowe. He was also preceded in death by his twin sister, Mozell Watson.
