Graveside service for Ottis Hastell Wyly, age 82, of Sulphur Springs,TX were held at 2:00 P.M. on Sunday, November 26, 2017 at Forest Academy Cemetery in Como with Bro. Gary Thompson officiating. Mr. Wyly passed away on Friday, November 24, 2017 at Christus Trinity Mother Frances Hospital in Sulphur Springs.
Ottis Hastell Wyly was born on April 19, 1935, the son of Allie Frank and Ruby Ruth (Kerr) Wyly in Pickton, Texas. Ottis was of the Methodist Faith and he and his brother would walk two miles on Sunday morning to First United Methodist Church to attend Sunday school. Ottis was best known for his famous pipe filled with cherry blend tobacco, he also loved fishing, playing dominos and he was an avid fan of the Atlanta Braves. He proudly and with honor served his country for 20 years as a Staff Sargent in the US Army and was stations at Ft. Hood Texas. He was sent to Vietnam, Greenland and Germany. He was very proud of his country. Ottis mostly kept to himself but was a friend to all.
He is survived by his brother, James Howard and wife Mary Ellen of El Paso; sister-in-law, Judy Wyly; several nieces and nephews and one special niece and nephew, Terry and James Wyly whom he relied on for everything.
Ottis was preceded in death by parents and his brothers, Alton Maurice, Billy Frank and Travis Wyly.
