Funeral services for Orville R. Cook (Cookie), age 90, of Sulphur Springs, will be held at 2:00 p.m., Sunday, April 5, 2009, at Murray-Orwosky Funeral Home, with Rev. Charles Rawlingson and Rev. Edgar Clements officiating. A military graveside service, under the direction of the Hopkins County Military Coalition will follow at City Cemetery. Serving as pallbearers will be Harry Holley, Terry Holley, Howard Holley, Robert Dodd, Charles Cromer, Jerry Dodd and Earl Martin. Honorary pallbearers will be Joe Worsham, James Worley, Mark Worley, Bill Campbell, Mike Womack, Mike Hedges and Brother Sammie Porter. Visitation will be held from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., Saturday, April 4, 2009, at Murray-Orwosky Funeral Home.
Orville R. Cook (Cookie) passed away at Carriage House Manor, Thursday afternoon, April 2, 2009. He was born in Corning, Arkansas, on August 25, 1918, the son of William (Bill) Cook and Nannie (Waller) Cook. He married Ada Lou Terry in Sulphur Spriings, on July 27, 1940. She preceded him in death in 2004. Mr. Cook had been an insurance salesman for 32 years. He was a member of Martin Springs Baptist Church and served in the United States Army.
Survivors include: daughter, LaVerne Rutherford; sons, Robert Cook and wife, Sherry, Jerry Cook and wife, Nina; brother, W. A. Cook, Jr. and wife, Patsy, all of Sulphur Springs; seven grandchildren; eleven great-grandchildren and ten great-great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by infant son, Orville Cook, Jr., his parents, a brother, three half-sisters and stepmother. Memorials may be made to Martin Springs Baptist Church Building Fund.
