Funeral services for Oma Greaves Thomas, age 97, of Cumby, will be conducted at First United Methodist Church in Commerce at 2:00 p.m., on Thursday April 19, 2012, with Rev. Valarie Englert, and Rev. Marc Corazao officiating. Interment will follow at Mt. Zion Cemetery. Serving as casket bearers will be Ben King, Christopher Greaves, Don Turner, Galen Creighton, Neal Stewart, Jeff Orwosky and Stephen East. Honorary casket bearers will be Lt. Commander Mark Greaves, Diane and Jerry Green, Verda Hogue Turner, Janice King, Diann and Lynn Norton, Judy O'Halloran East, Eddie & Cindy Haynes and members of First United Methodist Church of Cumby.
Visitation and viewing will begin at 12:00 (Noon) Thursday, April 19, 2012 in the Family Life Center, First United Methodist Church in Commerce.
Oma Greaves Thomas passed away Tuesday morning, April 17, 2012 at Hunt Regional Medical Center. She was born in Hopkins County, March 13, 1915, the daughter of Edwin P. Greaves and Ella (Renfro) Greaves. She married Loyd Thomas in Cumby on April 30, 1935. He died before her in 2000. She was a retired quality control inspector for Sherwood Medical. She was a member of First United Methodist Church of Cumby, past president of the Sunday School Class and a member of United Methodist Women.
Survivors include: son, Ron Thomas of Commerce; three grandchildren, Samuel Ray Thomas of Campbell , Dustin William Thomas of Commerce and Talisha Deanna Thomas of Dallas; three great-grandchildren, Zachary Ray Thomas, Tristan Nicholas Thomas and Allana Thomas and daughter-in-law, Cindy Thomas of Commerce. Also died before her were son and daughter twins; son, Eddie William Thomas; two brothers, Edwin Greaves and Arthur Greaves and sister, Ruth McGee.
Should friends desire, memorials may be made to First United Methodist Church of Cumby and/or First United Methodist Church of Commerce.
Services are under the personal direction of Jeff Orwosky, Galen Creighton and Murray-Orwosky Funeral Home.
