Merle Tolbert Panter, 85, of Sulphur Springs, Texas died Saturday, August 16, 2014. She was born May 3, 1929 to William Irvin Tolbert and Rella McGuire Tolbert in Durant, Oklahoma. She married Mel Panter in Van Buren, Arkansas on May 26, 1948.
Merle was a loving wife and mother. She retired from Sulphur Springs ISD serving as a secretary for the Special Education Department. She was an active member of League Street church of Christ and served as secretary for several churches where they attended.
Merle is survived by her husband, Mel of 66 years; brother, George Tolbert; son, Gary and wife, Helene Panter of Brooklyn, New York; daughter, Linda Panter of Sulphur Springs; son, Tommy and wife, Gwen Panter of Sulphur Springs; grandchildren, Olive, Caleb and wife, Addi, Adam and wife, Jenni, Luke and wife, Janae and Andrew; great- grandchildren, Bennett, Beau, Penny, and Charli.
She was preceded in death by an infant son, Toby Wayne Panter, brothers, Tony Tolbert, William Tolbert, and J.B. Tolbert.

Services will be at 11:00 a.m., on Monday, August 18, 2014 at the League Street Church of Christ. Interment will follow at Restlawn Memorial Park in Sulphur Springs.
