A funeral service for Mel Price, age 78, of Sulphur Springs will be conducted at League Street Church of Christ at 10:00 a.m., Thursday, November 8, 2012, with Tommy Panter and Chuck Lawrence officiating. Interment will follow at 4:00 p.m. at Myrtle Springs Cemetery in Cherokee County. Serving as pallbearers will be Johnathon Gammill, Clay Hansford, Tibor Siklosi, Clark Ashley, Nick Nichols and Bavard Hill. Visitation will be from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., Wednesday, November 7, 2012 at Murray-Orwosky Funeral Home.
Mel Price passed away Sunday, November 4, 2012 at Hopkins County Memorial Hospital. He was born in Wichita Falls on November 11, 1933, the son of Melvin Kimbrough Price, Sr. and Jessie Faye (Rogers) Price. He married Sherrel Burton in Ponta on August 20, 1960; she survives. He was co-owner and general manager of KDXE-FM Radio and a college professor . He was also a member of League Street Church of Christ. He served on The Crime Stoppers Board, the Food Bank Board and was involved with the The American Cancer Society, Hopkins County Chamber of Commerce, Rotary Club and part of a boys' mentoring program at Sulphur Springs Middle School. He served in the United States Army.
Other survivors include: four daughters, Sherri Stern and husband, Alan, of Houston, Terry Bly of Plano, Kelly You of Sulphur Springs and Monica Siklosi and husband Tibor of Norman, Oklahoma; grandchildren, Johnathon Gammill and Shelby, Katelyn Bly, Clay Hansford, Elise Siklosi and Ethan Siklosi and great-grandson, Jackson Lundell. He was preceded in death by brother, Terry Price and sister, Shirley Ashley.
