Mary Christine “Chris” Oakley, 93, of Vienna, Virginia passed away peacefully on Friday, November 24, 2023.
She was born on Christmas Day in Texas to the late Earl Walter Carr and Reginald Marie McDowell Carr. She met the late Charles H. Oakley on a blind date in Denver, Colorado. It was love at first sight and they married and moved east to Virginia in 1963.
She was preceded in death by her husband and parents, her son (Larry Lile) and stepson and stepdaughter-in-law (Charles and Eileen Oakley), two brothers and sisters-in-law (Elwyn and Murlene Carr. Paul and Wanda Carr), and sister-in-law (Patty Carr).
She is survived by her daughter, Christi Oakley of Ashburn, Virginia; her brother, Gerald R. Carr of Tyler, Texas; ‘bonus daughters’ Nancy Simutis (Len) of Summerville, South Carolina, and Janet Zinser (Thom) of Wheat Ridge, Colorado; granddaughters Valerie Phippen (Nate) of Hartland, Wisconsin; Sara Rossi of Glenview, Illinois; Deb Simpson (Colin) of Cody, Wyoming; Cheri Copeland (Eric) of Helena, Montana; and Ember Oakley of Riverton, Wyoming; her great-grandchildren Hunter, Will, Blake, Juliana, Mac, Nick, Trey, and Mason; and nieces, nephews and extended family in Texas.
She worked at Paciulli Simmons & Associates, a local civil engineering firm in Vienna, for more than 30 years. She was a long-time member of Wesley United Methodist Church. She was also a long-time member of Westwood Country Club and spent many hours on the golf course and tennis courts. She loved the beach, adored dogs, and was an amazing cook and baker. She never met a stranger and was loved dearly by everyone who knew her.
The family would like to thank the wonderful caregivers and staff at Thrive at Home, Great Falls Assisted Living, and PHS Hospice who provided loving care and comfort to her.
A visitation with the family will be held at 2 pm Thursday, November 30, 2023, at Money & King Funeral Home, 171 W Maple Avenue, Vienna, Virginia, with a celebration of her life to follow at 3 pm. Graveside service will be held at 11:00 A.M. Saturday, December 2 ,2023, at Restlawn Memorial Park in Sulphur Springs, Texas
