Mark Cates

September 24, 1958 — March 30, 2009

On March 30, 2009, Mark Dale Cates of Cumby Texas, was called home to his Lord after battling a long illness. Mark was born September 24, 1958 in Gillette Wyoming to Bud and Juanita Cates. At the age of 5, Mark and his family moved to Everett Washington. At the age of 17 Mark enlisted in the Army, trained as a Field Generator Tech, and received an Honorable discharge in 1977. Later, Mark completed his training to become an electrician in 1984. In 1985, he married his wife of 24 years and that same year they moved to Dallas Texas with their daughter Christa.

Mark was a loving husband, father, and friend to everyone that knew him. When he was younger, he loved to ride motorcycles and was given the nickname Ditchrider by his father in law. He loved to go fishing and spent many nights out on Lake Ray Hubbard, though he never caught much besides a nap. Mark also loved movies, and as his health declined that became his favorite pastime. Mark loved his family, especially his daughter and grandchildren above all else. He had huge heart, a loving and giving soul, and was always willing to help anyone he could. His passing has left a void in our lives, and we will all miss him very much.

Mark is survived by his wife Marie, daughter Christa, and grandchildren Taeya and Jayden. His brothers and sisters, all residing in Washington State, Cindy Wher, Kevin and Rikki Cates, Darryl Cates, Lori and Doug Bruskrud, and Doyle Cates. Numerous aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews.

Mark was preceded in death by his mother Juanita, father Douglas *Bud*, his grandparents, and brother in law Rick Wher.

A memorial service will be held Wednesday, April 8, 2009 at the Cornerstone Baptist Church of Cumby Texas, at 2:00pm. Rev. Richard Deteau officiating.
