Funeral services for Marie Vaden Stokes, age 88, of Sulphur Springs, will be conducted at Murray-Orwosky Funeral Home Chapel, at 1:00 p.m., Tuesday, March 23, 2010, with Rev. Lavelle Hendricks officiating. Interment will follow at Restlawn Memorial Park, with J. K. Stokes, Terry Williams, Clifford Jones, Leroy Ford, Tony Ford, Donnie Harris, Mike Goodson and Chris Dial serving as pallbearers. Visitation will be from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., Monday, March 22, 2010 at Murray-Orwosky Funeral Home.
Marie Vaden Stokes passed away Thursday morning, March 18, 2010 at Hopkins County Memorial Hospital. She was born in Hopkins County, on October 9, 1921, the daughter of George Vaden and Corain Williams Vaden. She married John Lester Stokes in Hopkins County on November 27, 1946. He preceded her in death in 1951. Mrs. Stokes was a retired seamstress from H. D. Lee and a member of East Caney Baptist Church.
Survivors include: two sons, Joe Stokes and Stanley Stokes, both of Sulphur Springs; daughter, Johnella Skinner of Hampton, Virginia; two sisters, Lee Myrtle Dial and Mozelle Williams, both of Sulphur Springs; two brothers, Clevland Vaden of Sulphur Springs and Clifford Vaden of Dallas; grandchildren, Cadrina Parker, Tamra Skinner, J. K. Stokes, Margaret Harris, Johnny Ford and Tony Ford and great-grandchildren, David Parker and Kameron Stokes. She was preceded in death by three sisters, Deester Thompson, Theo Jones and Jewel Clayton and two brothers, L. D. Vaden and Clarence Vaden.
