Luther Petrea

Funeral service for Luther Jack Petrea, age 81, of Sulphur Springs, TX will be held at 2:00P.M. on Sunday, April 25, 2021 at Murray-Orwosky Funeral Chapel with Mike Eason officiating. Interment will follow at Nelta Cemetery with Asa Joslin, Tommy Sanderson, Jacob Peugh, Luke Wright, Wesley Jordan and Casey Janway serving as pallbearers and Bascum Chapman, John Trice, William Dodd and Kevin Keen serving as honorary pallbearers.

Luther Jack Petrea passed away Thursday, April 22, 2021 in Sulphur Springs, Texas. He was born on July 28, 1939 in Hopkins County, Texas as the seventh and final child of Elmer Roy and Allie Almedia Darden Petrea.

On February 25, 1960, he married Murlene Joslin in Sulphur Springs, Texas. Their marriage would be blessed with a daughter, Linda Darlene, and a son, Harold Dean Petrea. Luther Jack would work for Pratt Packing and then later for Hopkins County Precinct 4. He would retire as the precinct road and bridge foreman. Through the years, he made many friends at his places of employment and truly enjoyed helping others.

Luther Jack enjoyed playing dominos, fishing, and going to the casino. He was an excellent cook and liked to make dishes he knew was everyone’s favorites like peas, chicken and dressing, mashed potatoes and tortilla and eggs. The grandkids learned early on that Pawpaw would keep peppermint candies in his car for them and they would get a piece of chocolate and a coke every time they would visit his house.

Left to cherish all these wonderful memories: his daughter and son in law, Linda and John Vaughn; his son, Harold Petrea; grandchildren, Jason and Patty Vaughn, and Nicole Vaughn; great grandchildren, Natalie, Jackson, Rhett, Casen, Carson and Blakely Vaughn. He also leaves behind numerous nieces and nephews.

Luther Jack was preceded in death by his parents, Elmer Roy and Allie Petrea; wife, Murlene Petrea; granddaughter, Shiloh Vaughn; grandson, Josh Vaughn; and his siblings, JC Petrea, A.E. Petrea, Willie D. Petrea, Mattie Lou Petrea Baker, Roy Petrea, and Glenna Hargrave. We know there was a joyous reunion in Heaven when he arrived.
