Funeral services for Lonnie Lewis, age 48, of Sulphur Springs, will be held at First Baptist Church , at 10:00 a.m., Friday, May 16, 2008, with Dr. David Hardage, Dr. Bob McCartney, Rev. Joe Simms and Kyle Strickland officiating. Interment will follow at Sherley Cemetery , with Peter Roos, Eddie Morton, Stewart Hamm, Barry Godwin, Johnny McSheffrey, Jim Roberts, Rowdy Crowson and Nick Junior serving as pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers will be Ray Skelton, Bobby Vickery, Morningstar Foods family, Texas Glory Softball Dads and the Sulphur Springs Wildcat Football Team. Visitation will be from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., Thursday, May 15, 2008, at Murray-Orwosky Funeral Home.

Lonnie Lewis passed away at his residence, Wednesday morning, May 14, 2008. He was born in Dallas, on February 16, 1960, the son of Lonnie Ray Lewis, Sr. and Sherry Lynn Brown Lewis. He married Geneva Marie Melton, in Duncanville , on August 13, 1983; she survives. Mr. Lewis worked at Morning Star Foods and was a member of First Baptist Church . Lonnie was a loving husband, father, friend, wildcat fan and outdoorsman.

Other survivors include: son, Zachary Todd Lewis; daughter, Maurie Grace Lewis, both of Sulphur Springs; mother, Sherry Barnett and step-father, James of Dallas; step-mother, Glenda Lee Bradley and step-father, Gerald, of Kaufman; father and mother-in-law, James and Marilyn Baxter of Sulphur Springs; three brothers, Duane Lewis of Sulphur Springs, Jeff Lewis of Grand Prairie and John Lewis of Forney. He was preceded in death by his father. Memorials may be made to the Lonnie Lewis Scholarship Fund and/or Softball and Powerlifting Scholarship Fund.
