Lola Weaver

A memorial service for Lola Lackey Weaver will be conducted at 2:00 p.m., Wednesday, May 26, 2010, at Lakewood Methodist Church, 2443 Abrams Road, Dallas, Texas 75214.

Beloved mother, "Nana" and friend died Monday afternoon, May 24, 2010, at her residence in Dallas, Texas. Born July 13, 1915 in Carlton, Texas to the late Rev. and Mrs. A. C. Lackey. Lola graduated from Carlton High School as salutatorian and John Tarlton Junior College. She received her BS degree from the University of North Texas and her Masters degree in Home Economics from Cornell University. While attending Cornell she was initiated into two honorary sororities; Omicron Nu Home Economics and Phi Lambda Theta, Education. She was also a member of Sigma Delta Epsilon, a fraternity for men and women in mathematics. In 1948 she attended the National Home Economics Convention in Minneapolis and presented a summary of her thesis findings.

A lifelong teacher, Lola taught and counseled students in Las Cruces, N.M., NTSU, Taylor ISD, University of Arkansas, Gaston ISD and Jacksonville ISD. She retired in 1985. She was preceded in death by 3 brothers and 4 sisters. She is survived by her son Robert L. (Bob) Weaver and wife Peggy of Sulphur Springs, daughter Myrna Rainer and husband Mark Rainer of Austin. Three grandsons also survive; Carl and Paul Rainer and Preston Weaver. Additionally, she is survived by two sister-in-laws, Willadean Lackey and Bess Lackey and many beloved nieces and nephews.

Lola was a devout Methodist her entire life. Her family and friends were prayed for daily and could feel those prayers. Anytime she said "I'll pray for you" she meant it. She held numerous positions in many United Methodist Churches including Chairperson of Education, secretary to the Administrative Board for two consecutive years, superintendent of the SS junior division, adult SS teacher and UMW member. Lola was a very active member of Lakewood United Methodist Church in Dallas. She found joy in her many friendships and will be remembered by her friends and family for her graciousness, warmth and thoughtfulness. Lola was famous for her lemon nut cakes, cookies and incredible candy making skills, especially her Divinity. Memorial gifts may be made in her name to Lakewood United Methodist Church Texas 75214.
