Leo Sykes, Jr.

Funeral Services for Leo Edward Sykes, Jr., age 78 of Sulphur Springs will be held Saturday, May 21, 2016 at 2:00 p.m. at Murray-Orwosky Funeral Home with Ken Masat officiating. Interment with military honors will follow at Restlawn Memorial Park with Rodney Flen, Justin Roberts, Glenn Lee, Monroe Lee, Rod Flen, James Roberts, Joe Orron, and Ray Pearson serving as pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers are Ken Masat, Bill Odgen, Tom Bailey, John Frogge, Johnny Murphy, Dr. Jason Davis, and John Smith. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service.

Leo passed away Wednesday, May 18, 2016 at Baylor University Medical Center in Dallas. He was born on October 25, 1937 in Moorhead, MS the son of Leo Edward, Sr. and Mavis Allen (Lee) Sykes. He married Clara Fay Adams on August 25, 1965 in Truth or Consequences, N.M. He served in the U.S. Navy as a 2nd Class Petty Officer, was a member of the VFW, founding member of Sons of Confederate Veterans Motorcycle Club, retired from Southern Pacific Railroad as a Communication Specialist, and was of the Baptist faith.

He is survived by his wife; daughters, Anne Lee and husband, Monroe of Fouke, AR; Linda Roberts and husband, James of Wills Point; Nancy Russell and husband, Charles of Sautee, GA; sons, Rod Flen and wife, Beverly of Strong, AR; Mike Flen and wife, Shelia of Portales, N.M.; grandchildren, Glenn Lee, Marti Hall, Rod Flen, Jr., Megan Flen, Blake Flen, Justin Roberts, Kathryn Roberts, Jamie Echols, Charles Russell, III and Clara Russell; great-grandchildren, Briannah Hall, Skyelar Lee, Caleb Lee, Ryleigh Flen and Jaden Flen; brothers, Jack Sykes and Jerry Sykes, and sister, Doris Sykes Layton.

He was preceded in death by his parents and grandson, Eddie Russell.
