Funeral service for Layton Carpenter, age 82, of Como, Texas will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, August 31, 2024 at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints with Bishop Alan Richmond officiating. Interment will follow at Old Saltillo Cemetery with Ryan Shawn Carpenter, Zachary Taylor Carpenter, Michael Lee Carpenter, Logan Kalana Carpenter, Austin Kainoa Carpenter, Layton Lee Carpenter, Gabriel Hernandez, Roman Hernandez, Easton Carpenter, Cal Carpenter, Jose Hernandez, and Cody Doonan serving as pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers will include Shawn Layton Carpenter, Shannon Lee Carpenter, Shane Lance Carpenter, and Sheldon Lane Carpenter. Visitation will be held from 6:00-8:00 p.m. on Friday, August 30, 2024 at Murray-Orwosky Funeral Home in Sulphur Springs, Texas. Mr. Carpenter passed away at Christus Mother Frances Hospital in Sulphur Springs on Sunday, August 25, 2024.

Leo Layton Carpenter, Jr. was born on August 13, 1942 in Baton Rouge, Louisiana to Leo Layton Carpenter, Sr. and Grace Mary (Deslatte) Carpenter. He married Anna Lynn Cooper in Baker, Louisiana on October 14, 1966. They were married for Eternity in The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints Salt Lake City Temple on October 19, 1966. Layton was in the United States Marine Corps where he achieved the rank of E5 Sargeant. He also obtained an associate degree in Forestry from Louisiana State University (LSU). Layton was a Building Contractor (he retired from L&L Builder, Inc. in December, 2023), a professional welder, an experienced cattleman, and the World’s Greatest Dad to his five children. He had several callings over his lifetime as a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints.

Layton is survived by his wife of almost 58 years, Anna Lynn Carpenter of Como; sons, Shawn Layton Carpenter (Danetta Ann) of Sulphur Springs, Shannon Lee Carpenter (Merit) of Sulphur Springs, Shane Lance Carpenter of North Carolina, Sheldon Lane Carpenter of Rockwall; daughter, Sheri Lynn Harris (David) of Little Elm; grandchildren, Ashleigh Hernandez (Jose), Ryan Shawn Carpenter (Jessica), Zachary Taylor Carpenter (Dianna), Amy Lynn Cooper (Cole), Michael Lee Carpenter, Logan Kalana Carpenter, Austin Kainoa Carpenter, Kayla Lynn Harris, Kira Gisele Harris, Layton Lee Carpenter; great-grandchildren, Gabriel Hernandez, Roman Hernandez, Analysia Hernandez, Lily Carpenter, Easton Carpenter, Cal Carpenter, Elliana Carpenter, Ava Carpenter, Alani Carpenter; sister, Janice Marie Thorsen of Magna, Utah; and nieces and nephews, Debbie Eames, Leo, Laren, Travis, Dallas, and Jared Thorsen.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Leo Layton Carpenter, Sr. and Grace Mary Carpenter.
