L. J. Massey

Funeral service for L.J. Massey, age 82, of Sulphur Springs, Texas will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, February 4, 2025 at Murray-Orwosky Funeral Home in Sulphur Springs, Texas with Gary Harred and Rowdy France officiating. Interment will follow at Tira Cemetery. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service from 10:00-11:00 a.m. at Murray-Orwosky Funeral Home with Mike Massey, Shawn Massey, Larmie Massey, Evan Darling, Justin Massey, Jackson Massey, Chance Massey, and Brandon Crowson serving as pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers will be Kenny Crowson, Gary Lynn France, Asa Joslin, Mack Garrett, Lee Pogue, Cephis Gregory, Zane Darling, and Jim Anderson. Mr. Massey passed away at Rock Creek Nursing Home on Thursday, January 30, 2025.

L.J. Massey was born on September 24, 1942 in Sulphur Springs, Texas to Weldon William and Ada (Vickers) Massey. As a young man he worked for Bonners Wholesale and Texas Power and Light. L.J. was a dairyman for 40+ years. He also worked for Masco Equipment and Nortex Tractor delivering farm equipment all over the country; but his true passion in life was training cow horses. He was baptized in Beckham, Texas at the age of 17, and was a member and deacon of the Independence Baptist Church. 

L.J. is survived by his wife of 21 years, Linda Edwards of Sulphur Springs; sons, Mike Massey (Joann Noel), Shawn Massey (Natasha), Laramie Massey and daughter-in-law Jeanna Massey all of Sulphur Springs, Evan Darling of Tira, and Zane Darling of Sulphur Springs; grandchildren, Justin Massey (Carmen), Morgan Vail (Trent), Chance Massey (Baylee), Jackson Massey (McKenzie), Mika Massey, Rhett Massey, Vance Massey, John Aubrey Wesson (Noah), Ashley Wesson, Annalee Wesson; and ten great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Weldon William and Ada Massey; sons, Jeff Massey and Mark Massey; and sisters, Merlene Miller, Marlene Harred, and Darlene Harred.

The family would like to thank Rock Creek Nursing Home for the compassion and wonderful care provided during his time with them.
