Vida Joyce Tyler was born the only child of Lloyd and Avis Baxter on February 1, 1926 in Brashear, TX. The family moved to Sulphur Springs when Joyce was still a child. She grew up in the family home on Main Street and attended Travis Elementary. Joyce graduated from Sulphur Springs High School where she was a terror on the tennis courts. She began working as a clerk in the County Clerk Office where one of her duties was to register returning war veterans. There she met returning vet Delbert “Snap” Tyler, her future husband, whom she married on September 20, 1946. The couple were very active in their church, political party and volunteered for many community services. Snap progressed in the local post office to become post master and Joyce became office administrator for the Carnation Milk Plant. She later resigned to raise two adopted daughters, Linda and Robin. Joyce was an avid sports fan of Texas teams, especially the Cowboys. The couple attended many Cowboy home games.

Joyce was preceded in death by her husband and both daughters.

She is survived by three grandsons, Eric Cole of Sunset, TX, Christopher Cole of Alvaredo, TX and Jeremy Robinson of Sulphur Springs; numerous grandchildren and several great grandchildren.

The family would like to thank the friendly atmosphere and loving care Joyce received at the Hopkins House, Sulphur Springs.
