Johnie Taylor Sr.

Funeral services for Johnie P. Taylor, Sr., age 82, of Sulphur Springs, are scheduled for 11:00 a.m., Saturday, February 16, 2008, at Murray-Orwosky Funeral Home Chapel. Rev. Don Tinsley and Rev. Kenneth Rhodes will officiate.

A military graveside service will be conducted by the Hopkins County Military Coalition at Como Cemetery. Larry Riley, Glenn Glascock, Darrell Dodd, Tony Cook, Dr. Don O'Neil, and James West will serve as pallbearers.

Visitation will be from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m., Friday, February 15, 2008, at the funeral home.

Mr. Taylor passed away on Wednesday evening, February 13, 2008, at Hopkins County Memorial Hospital. He was born in Miller Grove, on June 27, 1925, the son of Johnie Christopher and Ada Patton Taylor. He married Betty Jean Gibbons, in Sulphur Springs, on February 18, 1955. She survives.

Mr. Taylor was retired from West Building Supply Company. He was a member of Central Baptist Church and served in the U.S. Army during WWII.

Other survivors include: a son, J.P. Taylor, Jr., and his wife Linda of Sulphur Springs; three sisters, Marie Dickson, and Sue Loftin, both of Sulphur Springs, and Jean Birmingham of Garland; grandchildren, Steven Ray and Stacy Taylor, and Melissa Danielle Taylor; and a great-grandchild, Cody Christopher Ray Taylor.
