John Blann

Funeral services for John Blann, age 86, of Dallas, formerly of Hopkins County, will be held at Murray-Orwosky Funeral Home Chapel, at 2:00 p.m., Tuesday, October 7, 2008, with Rev. B. J. Teer officiating. A Masonic Graveside service and a military graveside service, under the Hopkins County Military Coalition, will follow at Black Oak Cemetery, with Butch Bowen, Kevin Frost, Danny Weems, Trey Schneider, Mike Odell and Kenny McKinley serving as pallbearers. Visitation will be held from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., Monday, October 6, 2008, at Murray-Orwosky Funeral Home.
John Blann passed away Sunday morning, October 5, 2008, at Doctors Hospital, in Dallas. He was born in the Black Oak Community, on August 24, 1922, the son of Willie Thomas and Tersie Neyland Blann. He married Louise Thomas in Dallas, on March 16, 1973. She preceded him in death in 1991. Mr. Blann was retired from the Ford Motor Company and Eastfield College. He served in the United States Army/Air Force during World War II. He was a 32nd degree Mason and a Shriner at the R. C. Buckner Lodge in Dallas.
Survivors include: two sons Larry Blann and wife, Chris, of Parker, Ricky Don Blann and wife, Tammy of Wylie; daughter, Pat Armstrong and husband, Earl, of Southlake; sister, Kathleen Nowlin of Washington; grandchildren, Amy Blann, Leslie Bal and husband, Adam, and Cody Blann; great-grandson, Garrison Bal; and three nephews, John Nowlin, Vic Nowlin and A. L. Brown. He was preceded in death by sister, Margaret Brown and grandson, Bryan Blann. Memorials may be made to Scottish Rite Hospital for Children, 2222 Welborn Street, Dallas, Texas 75219.
