Janna Gamblin

Funeral services for Janna Gamblin, age 91, of Sulphur Springs, will be held at Murray-Orwosky Funeral Home Chapel, at 2:00 p.m., Sunday, January 11, 2009, with Keith Kilmer and George Hollan officiating. Interment will follow at Restlawn Memorial Park, with Warner Gamblin, Debs Gamblin, Gayle Gamblin, Ronnie Blount, Jimmy Lewis, Asa Joslin, Doyle Wood and Chris Burt serving as pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers will be Dr. Charles Jones, Bill Hodge, Elton Stewart, Charlie Charles and Mrs. Gamblin's nephews. Visitation will be held at 5:00 p.m. to 6:30 p.m., Saturday, January 10, 2009, at Murray-Orwosky Funeral Home.
Janna Gamblin passed away Thursday afternoon, January 8, 2009, at Hopkins County Memorial Hospital. She was born in the Shaggy Community, on March 7, 1917, the daughter of John and Willie Ethel Porterfield Allen. She married Clinton Payne "C. P." Gamblin, in Sulphur Springs, on March 19, 1935. He preceded her in death in 1986. Mrs. Gamblin was a homemaker and she was a Christian.
Janna was a very talented lady in many ways. She loved gardening and yard work and made sure that every home where she lived had a beautiful landscape which she created with her own hands and hard work. Her son, Larry, remembers (from a young age) that they moved from place to place, depending on her husband, C.P.'s, occupation. Most of the houses had no yard and she set about planting flowers which she obtained almost altogether from cuttings of plants that friends and family provided from their own yards. Both Janna and C.P.'s favorite flowers were roses. She made sure that every home where they lived had beautiful roses, along with many varieties of other flowers. Another hobby which kept her busy indoors was sewing for herself, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She also made pretty curtains and quilts for her homes and for homes of children and grandchildren. She had a fantastic doll collection which she lovingly sewed and dressed in outfits of her own original creations. She laughed and talked to her doll friends as she styled and dressed each one. She loved her family dearly and always had time for each person. She will be lovingly remembered and dearly missed.
Survivors include: son, Larry Gamblin and wife, Alice, of Sulphur Springs; grandchildren, Gregg Gamblin and wife, Tammy, Cami Sewell and husband, Jerry; great-grandchildren, Will and Rynn Gamblin. She was preceded in death by two sisters, Janette Groves and Bobbie Lewis and brother, J. P. "Jake" Allen. Memorials may be made to: In Search of the Lord's Way, P.O.
