Military Graveside Services for James Houston Winnett, age 95, of Sulphur Springs will be at 10:00am on Tuesday, June 24, 2014 at Sulphur Springs City Cemetery. Reverend Kenneth Rhoades will be officiating.
Visitation will be at Murray-Orwosky Funeral Home from 6-8pm on Monday, June 23, 2014.
Mr. Winnett passed away on Tuesday, June 17, 2014, at Carriage House Manor.
Mr. Winnett was born June 3, 1919 in the Seymore Community, Hopkins County, Texas to Sam Houston and Laura Eva Williams Winnett.
Mr. Winnett married Marcelle Rowe on August 24, 1940 in Brashear Texas, she preceded him in death in 2005.
Mr. Winnett served in the U.S. Army during WWII . He retired from the camera department at the Sulphur Springs News Telegram.
He was a member of the Central Baptist Church for 60 years where he also served as a Deacon.
He is survived by his daughter Anita & husband Ronny Glossup of Sulphur Springs, his brother Wilburn & wife Carla Winnett of Sulphur Springs, granddaughter Melanie & husband Jonas Helm of Sulphur Springs, great grandchildren Caitlin and Lauren Helm.
He was preceded in death by his two brothers Buford and Rayburn Winnett and two sisters Pearlie Fox and Lorene Fields.
Military Honors provided by the Hopkins County Military Coalition.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Central Baptist Church Missions Fund or the Hopkins County Genealogical Society.
