Funeral services for James Earl Smith, age 71, of Como will be conducted at First United Pentecostal Church at 2:00 p.m., Friday, February 3, 2012, with Rev. James Anderson officiating. A military graveside service, under the direction of the Hopkins County Military Coalition, will follow at Greenpond Cemetery, Visitation will be from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., Thursday, February 2, 2012 at Murray-Orwosky Funeral Home.
James Earl Smith passed away Monday afternoon, January 30, 2012 at his residence. He was born in Broken Bow, Oklahoma on October 6, 1940, the son of James B. Smith and Rachel Wallace Martin Smith. He married Wanda S. Dodd in Hopkins County March 23, 1963. She preceded him in death in 2009. He was a retired truck driver and a member of New Life Church of Mt. Vernon. He served in the United States army.
Survivors include: son, Darren Smith of Como; two daughters, Shannon Hanna of Leonard and Seleatha Houston and husband Keith of Euless; sisters, Reba Osterdock and husband Gene of Millerton, Oklahoma, Jeannie Norbill and husband Jay of Roger, Arkansas, Vickie Hillard of Orange BeachAlabama and Sandy Gallagher of Broken Bow, Oklahoma; three brothers, Eddie Smith and wife Dottie of Balch Springs, Claude Smith and wife Olivia of Dallas and Chucky Karr and wife Pat of Broken Bow, Oklahoma; five grandchildren, Julie Hanna, Micaela Houston, Hollie Houston, Courtney Houston and Stephanie Houston. He was also preceded in death by his parents.
