James Paul Hooker, 82, of Reilly Springs, Texas entered the gates of Heaven on May 22, 2020 at the Wesley House Assisted Living Facility in Quitman, Texas. A private graveside service will be held May 26, 2020 at the Reilly Springs Cemetery in Reilly Springs. In lieu of a public viewing, his body will lie in state at Murray-Orwosky Funeral Home in Sulphur Springs, Texas for friends and family to come and go at their will until Tuesday morning.
James was born on September 27, 1937 at home in Reilly Spring, Texas in Hopkins County to Paul and Odessa Loyd Hooker. He married Betty Sue Reynolds on September 12, 1960 in Sulphur Springs, Texas. James served his country as a National Guardsman from 1962-1970. James was a retired farmer and loved fresh produce, especially tomatoes. He was an avid fisherman, hunter, and karaoke fan. Making stews in wash pots for his friends and family was an honored tradition. In recent years, James was saved and became a true believer in Jesus Christ and loved listening to gospel music.
He is survived by his daughters, Debbie Moseley and husband, Mark, Donna Yarbrough and husband, Bobby, and Denise Wood; grandchildren, Amanda Garriga, Amy Gilmore, PJ Garriga, Taylor Moseley, John Paul Moseley, Tiffany Maynard, and Crystal Boyd; 12 great grandchildren; sister, Katie Oakley and brothers, Jerry Hooker and Jackie Hooker; many nieces and nephews.
James was preceded in death by his parents and wife.
Pallbearers will be Taylor Moseley, P.J. Garriga, John Paul Moseley, Amos Hooker, Jesse Hooker, Evan Hooker and Kemmy Bevill.
