Funeral services for James "Jim" Groves, age 89, of Sulphur Springs, will be conducted at Murray-Orwosky Funeral Home Chapel, at 1:00 p.m., Saturday, November 6, 2010, with Rev. John Gandy and Rev. Tommy Hall officiating. Interment will follow at Restlawn Memorial Park, with Neuman Browning, Stan Browning, Bud Wyatt, Mac Sotam, Leon Stone and Ron Otto serving as pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers will be Archie Stone and Willy Girouard.
James "Jim" Groves passed away at his residence, Tuesday, November 2, 2010. He was born in Sulphur Springs on February 8, 1921, the son of William McKinley Groves and Clyde (Rust) Groves. He married Frances Oler in Sulphur Springs on July 4, 1939. She preceded him in death in 2008. Mr. Groves was retired owner of Army/Navy surplus store and he was a member of Immanuel Baptist Church. He served in the Merchant Marines during World War II.
Survivors include: two sons, Tommy Groves and wife, Cindy, of Lake Jackson, James Samuel Groves and wife, Lisa, of Finksburg, Maryland; two sisters, Lorene Stone of Sulphur Springs and Joyce Wyatt and husband, Bud, of Irving; special daughter, Sandra Evans of Houston; grandchildren, Charis Paul, Vanessa Lee, David Gunnels, Amanda Feldschneider, Austin Groves, Trevor Groves and Mallory Groves and great-grandchildren, Joshua Paul, Sarah Paul, David Lee, Jacob Lee, Ava Lee, Aidan James Groves, John Paul Groves and Mary Katherine Frances Groves.
He was also preceded in death by sister, Mary Girouard. Memorials may be made to Immanuel Baptist Church.
