Funeral services for James William (Bill) Garner, age 96, of Brashear, will be held at the Murray-Orwosky Funeral Home Chapel, at 2:00 p.m., Tuesday, January 13, 2009, with Lynn Turner and Travis Aven officiating. Interment will follow at Brashear Cemetery, with Mr. Garner's grandsons serving as pallbearers. Visitation will be held one hour prior to service time (1:00 p.m.).
James William (Bill) Garner passed away Saturday evening, January 10, 2009, at Hopkins County Memorial Hospital. He was born in Hopkins County, on June 28, 1912, the son of Arthur Napoleon and Daisy Dean Mallory Garner. He married Edith Vickers in Brashear, on November 27, 1937. She preceded him in death in 1997. Mr. Garner owned and operated Garner's Store in Brashear. He was a member of the League Street Church of Christ.
Survivors include: two sons, William Garner and Gerald Garner, both of Brashear; daughter, Barbara Filter of Royse City; three sisters, Pansy Reeves of Euless, Opal Clapp and Pearlene Bass, both of Irving; 13 grandchildren; 35 great-grandchildren and seven great-great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by son, Harvey Lee Garner; two grandsons, four sisters and three brothers.
