Funeral services for James E. Davis, 85, of Sulphur Springs will be conducted at Wesley United Methodist Church at 2:00 p.m., Sunday, August 19, 2012, with Rev. Brian Bosworth officiating. A military graveside service under the direction of the Hopkins County Military Coalition will follow at Shady Grove Cemetery in Winnsboro. Serving as pallbearers will be Dudley Moon, Eric Drum, Wendell Claxton, Jerry Petty, Hersean Lewis and Jimmie Davis. Honorary pallbearers will be the Wesleyan Class, Gary Moon and Luther Roberson. Visitation will be from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., Saturday, August 18, 2012 at Murray-Orwosky Funeral Home.
James E. Davis passed away at his residence Thursday morning, August 16, 2012. He was born in Brashear on July 19, 1927, the son of Tom Davis and Ruby (Romack) Davis. He married Nelma Joyce Bradshaw in Winnsboro on May 12, 1960; she survives. He was a retired self-employed carpenter and a member of Wesley United Methodist Church. He served in the United States Army during World War II.
Other survivors include: daughter, Teresa Pogue and husband, Matt, of Sulphur Springs; son, James "Yogi" Davis and wife, Stacy, of Dike; two brothers, Eldon Ray "Pee Wee" Davis and wife, Joyzelle, of Winnsboro and Clifford Davis and wife, Sandra, of Liberty City; two sisters, Betty Russell and husband, Ronnie, of Mt. Pleasant and Ann Ashton and husband, Dick, of North Royalton, Ohio; grandchildren, Ali Danielson and Deano, Jaci, Mikala and Cassidy Davis; great-grandchildren, Talon Patrick and Brynlee Danielson. He was preceded in death by three brothers, Thomas Joe Davis, John D. Davis and Jerry Wayne Davis and one sister, Hazel Stanley.
