A military graveside service, under the direction of the Hopkins County Military Coalition, for James Crowder, age 93, of Sulphur Springs, will be held at the Odd Fellows Cemetery, at 1:00 p.m., Thursday, January 22, 2009, with Brother Tommy Hall officiating. Honorary pallbearers will be Stan Francis, Sidney Nelson, Paul White and Justin Yager. Visitation will be held from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m., Wednesday, January 21, 2009, at Murray-Orwosky Funeral Home.
James Crowder passed away Monday morning, January 19, 2009, at his residence. He was born in Indianapolis, Indiana, on January 26, 1915, the son of James Thomas and Mary Ellen Chesher Crowder. He married Patricia Mae Thomas, in Indianapolis, on October 5, 1946; she survives. Mr. Crowder was an assembler for Wal-Mart. He served in the Indiana National Guard and then in Army Air Corps during World War II.
Other survivors include: two daughters, Carol Ann Dixon and Linda K. Crowder, both of Sulphur Springs; and son, James E. Crowder of Escondido, California. He was preceded in death by six sisters. Memorials may be made to the Hopkins County Veterans' Memorial and/or to the Leukemia Foundation.
