Funeral services for James Ray Burnett will be conducted at
Murray-Orwosky Funeral Home at 10:00 a.m., Monday, June 6, 2011, with Cleatus Taylor and Bro. Rodney Crist officiating. Interment will follow at Seymore Cemetery with J.W. Burnett, Cole Hurley, Greg Mays, Cole Burnett, R. Cord Burnett, and Adam Dowell serving as pallbearers.
Honorary pallbearers will be Bobby Ogle and Gerald Burnett.
Graveside services will be under the direction of the Hopkins County Military Coalition. Visitation will be from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m.,Sunday, June 6, 2011 at Murray-Orwosky Funeral Home.
James Burnett passed away Thursday morning, June 2, 2011 at Hopkins County Memorial Hospital. He was born in Yantis on October 29, 1928,the son of Elmer and Artie Wyatt Burnett. He married Betty Massey in
Emory on November 28, 1950; she survives. He was a milk truck driver and served as a deacon at County Line Baptist Church. He served in the United States Army during the Korean Conflict.
Other survivors include: son, Billy Burnett, and wife, Kathryn;
daughter, Brenda Vess, and husband, John; brother, William Burnett; sister, Bonnie McAfee, all of Yantis; ten grandchildren, Carey Lobin, J.W. Burnett, Carrie Hurley, Greg Mays, Cole Burnett, R. Cord Burnett, Adam Dowell, Ashley Dowell, Stephen Vess, and Michael Vess; twelve great-grandchildren, Keigan and Lasca Lobin, Lainy and Landon Burnett,
Kinley and Presley Hurley, Harlie and Brock Mays, Julie and Allison
Dowell, Makayla and Abrianna Dowell.
He was preceded in death by his parents and two sisters, Ruby Newsome
and Louise Dunavin.
Memorials may be made to the Seymore Cemetery Association.
