Funeral services for J. E. "Jake" Chapman, 87, of Dallas will be conducted at Murray-Orwosky Funeral Home Chapel at 2:00 p.m., Saturday, October 15, 2011, with Rev. Marc Dobson officiating. A military graveside service under the direction of the Hopkins County Military Coalition will follow. Visitation will be from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., Friday, October 14, 2011 at Murray-Orwosky Funeral Home.
J. E. "Jake" Chapman passed away Tuesday afternoon, October 11, 2011 at Veterans Hospital in Dallas. He was born in Dike July 7, 1924, the son of Enoch Chapman and Viola (Vickers) Chapman. He married Wanda Faye Recer in Durant, Oklahoma on September 17, 1973; she survives. He was a retired driver for Mercury Freight Lines and he was of the Baptist faith. He served in the United States Army during World War II.
Other survivors include: two sons, Jerry Don Chapman of Emory and Danny Joe Owen; daughter, Linda Owen and other children by a previous marriage; brother, Lewis Chapman, all of Mesquite; grandchildren, Scott Chapman, Wesley Chapman, Emily Sawa and John Owen and great-grandchildren, Brooke Sawa and Bram Sawa. He was preceded in death by one brother, Darwin Chapman.
