A funeral service for Irene Tanton, age 87, of Sulphur Springs will be at 10:00 a.m., Friday, December 27, 2013, at Murray-Orwosky Funeral Home Chapel, with Rev. Lee Huff officiating. Interment will follow at Restlawn Memorial Park, with Josh McCord, Jordan Strickland, Chase Harry, Brandon Harry, Dylon Morgan and Timmy Scarborough serving as pallbearers. Visitation will be from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., Thursday, December 26, 2013 at Murray-Orwosky Funeral Home.
Irene Tanton passed away at Hopkins County Memorial Hospital Monday night, December 23, 2013. She was born on January 31, 1926, the daughter of Jim Walker and Vola Troxell Walker. She married D. L. Tanton June 24, 1944. He preceded her in death in 1985. She was a retired instructor for H. D. Lee and a member of Calvary Baptist Church.
Survivors include: three daughters, Patricia McManus, Linda Jacks and husband James and Brenda Cotten and husband Ricky; three sisters, Norma Smith, Wilma Goldsmith, all of Sulphur Springs and Shirley Smolka of Garland; brother, Orville Walker of Tacoma, Washington; grandchildren, Tony Harry, Tim Harry, April Morgan, Brandi Leber, Shane Jacks, Jeremy Jacks, Tammy Strickland, Brent Cotten, Dedria Bulin, Debbie Scarborough, Shelly Mims, Jeffery Brown and Breanne Brown; great-grandchildren, Brittanie Reeves, Brandon Harry, Ashlie White, Dylon Morgan, Jessica Harry, Chase Harry, Bailey Waggoner, Chance Leber, Josh McCord, Jordan Strickland, Mikaela Jacks, Jason Leber, Jarrin Leber, Zachary Cotten, Christian Cotten, Braden Cotten Kortney Bulin, Kasey Bulin, Christy Coleman Tim Scarborough, Terry Scarborough, Michelle Funk, Victoria Mims, Caitlin Brown, Caleb Brown, Chelsea Cupp and six great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by daughter, Judy Swaney; two brothers, Willard Walker and Bennie Walker; two sisters, Thelma Butler and Inez Harris and one great-great-grandbaby.
