Ida Fite

Funeral services for Ida Fite, age 91 of Sulphur Springs will be conducted at 11:00 a.m., Monday, July 1, 2013 at Murray-Orwosky Funeral Home Chapel. Interment will follow at Restlawn Memorial Park. Visitation will be at 10:00 a.m. , one hour prior to the service.
Ida Bell Fite was born to William Marion and Martha Caroline Patridge in Yantis. She passed away Friday, June 28, 2013 in Sulphur Springs.
In 1940 she married J. W. "Pete" Fite and the family resided in Wood County until 1947, when they moved to Sulphur Springs. In 1959 the family moved to Garland where Ida was a homemaker and worked and retired from K-Mart. After divorcing in 1971, she continued to work and make her home in the Dallas area. In 1983, she moved to Greenville and lived with her sister Mattie. Later they moved back to Sulphur Springs where she worked for Wal-Mart and then Jordan Home Health.
She was a member of the Davis Street Baptist Church and was in the Couples Sunday School class and did volunteer work for the Hopkins County Museum and Heritage Park.
Each year she would pick up buckets of pecans and shell them for herself and family members. This past November she was still shelling pecans that a friend had picked up for her. In recent years she pieced and quilted quilts for her family. At Thanksgiving and Christmas she would bake her special carrot cake.
Survivors include: son, Paul R. Fite and wife Sandra of Gilmer; daughter, Karen Stephens and husband Dale of Kemp; five grandsons, one granddaughter; 13 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; sister, Fay Wilson of Sulphur Springs and friend and caregiver, Nita Barrett. She was preceded in death by two sons, Tony G. in 1969 and Jerry D. in 2012 and two sisters, Mattie Pounds Brown and Irene Pounds.
