Memorial services for Howard Elsie "Sonny" Griggs, age 74, of Sulphur Springs will be conducted at 10:00 am on Friday, March 2, 2012 at The Way Bible Church. No formal visitation is scheduled.
Howard Elsie "Sonny" Griggs, went to be with our Savior on February 27, 2012. Howard was born on June 15, 1937 and was the second of five children to Howard Chapel Griggs "pop" and Sybil Brady Griggs "memaw". Howard graduated from Sulphur Springs high school in 1955 and has been involved in numerous trades since that time but mostly known for "Sonny's Burgers" and "Griggs Construction"
Howard married Sharon Ann Payne, of Sulphur Springs in 1957 and they had three children, Kenneth Howard Griggs of East Tawakoni, Gordan Jeffery Griggs and Mitchell Wayne Griggs, both of Sulphur Springs. After their divorce in 1977, Howard surrendered his life to Christ on July 19, 1979 and later met Lynda K. Blevins and they were married in 1981 and Lynda has two children Sheri Lynn Smith and Jason Lynn Shaw both of the Dallas area.
Lynda and Howard made their home south of Sulphur Springs and loved any time they could spend with family, friends and dad's right-hand man, their Winnie dog, Solomon. They never missed an opportunity to talk about their family and Howard never met a stranger, which to this day still amazes his family.
Howard is preceded in death by his parents, a younger brother, Thomas Paul Griggs, a brother-in-law, Don Pittenger and one granddaughter, Jessica Griggs, and he will be honored daily with blessed memories by his beautiful wife, Lynda; children, Ken & Sherry Griggs, Jeff & Laura Griggs, Mitch & Andrea Griggs, Sherry & Mark Smith, and Jason & Martha Shaw; sisters Barbara Pittenger of Dallas, and Carolyn Clifton and husband, Jimmy, of Sulphur Springs, one brother, John Roland Griggs of Dallas, numerous grandchildren, great- grandchildren and many other members of the "Griggs clan"
No one word could adequately describe Howard by anyone who met him. He will be missed as husband, dad, PawPaw, Sonny, Uncle Sonny, friend, but mostly missed by his family as our protector. "Well done my good and faithful servant!"
