Homer Brantley

June 23, 1929 — January 13, 2014

Homer W. Brantley, age, 84, of Sulphur Springs went home to be with his Lord and Savior, who he loved so much on Monday, January 13, 2014 at Hopkins County Memorial Hospital. Homer was a avid sports fan, he tried out for the New York Yankees, but the sport he loved the most was golf. He was the retired Men's Locker Room Manager at Colonial Country Club in Ft.Worth.
On February 8, 1952, he married the only true earthly love of his life, Martha Jane Wright, they have celebrated their love for almost 62 years together. He was born in Ft. Worth, TX on June 23, 1929, the son of Carl Kirby and Pearl Mae Shutz Brantley. Homer proudly served his country during the Korean Conflict with the United States Marines, where he received the Bronze Star and Purple Heart Medals. He was long time member and deacon at the Immanuel Baptist Church of Ft Worth and then attended Fellowship Christian Church of Sulphur Springs.
He left behind to carry his legacy upon this earth, his loving wife, Martha Jane Brantley, of Sulphur Springs; daughter, Deanna Spraggins, & husband, Gary, of Sulphur Springs; two sons, Mark Brantley & wife, Sherri, of Milano, and Jeffery Brantley & wife, Eden, of Hillsboro; sisters, Margret Murphy of Sulphur Springs, Vera Cox & husband, Tommy, of Bartlesville, OK, Billie Bowles & husband, Nathan, of El Paso, and Joyce Perkins, of Ft. Worth; brother, Lester Brantley & wife, Marie, of Ft Worth; eleven grandchildren, Brant & Lisa Spraggins, Benjamin & Amy Spraggins, Gary, Jr & Lindsey Spraggins, Melissa & J.R. Hurt, Cyler & Meagan Brantley, Lauren & Steve Runkel, Nathan Brantley, Blake Telford, Ashley Brantley, Ryan Brantley and Ty Brantley; eleven great-grandchildren, Sallee Spraggins, Brodie Spraggins, Brantley Spraggins, Boston Spraggins, Lillian Spraggins, Alyssa Hurt, Tanner Hurt, Eliza Beth Hurt, Hunter Brantley, Chloe Runkel and Brayden Brantley; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, four sisters, Mary Brantley, Frances Dean Edmonson, Louise Brantley, and Estelle Davis; three brothers, Orvel Brantley, Carl Brantley, and Ray Brantley.
A funeral service to celebrate Homer's life will be held at 1:00 pm, Wednesday, January 15, 2014 at Murray-Orwosky Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Tom Frisbie, Gary Spraggins, Eddie Sullivan, and James Wright officiating. Military graveside under the direction of Hopkins County Military Coalition in the Sulphur Springs City Cemetery with grandsons serving as pallbearers. Grandaughters and great- grandchildren will be serving as honorary pallbearers. Visitation will be held Tuesday, January 14, 2014 from 6 till 8 pm at Murray-Orwosky Funeral Home.
