Funeral services for Guy Rushin, age 83, of Sulphur Springs, will be held at Murray-Orwosky Funeral Home Chapel, at 10:00 a.m., Tuesday, August 25, 2009, with Rev. Fred Lewis and Rev. Debbie Riggsby officiating. Interment will follow at Brashear Cemetery, with Johnny Rushin, Mike Rushin, Jay Rushin, James Major Willis, Kyle Vernon and Bob Richardson serving as pallbearers. Honorary pallbearer will be Kurt Chew. Visitation will be held at Murray-Orwosky Funeral Home from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., Monday, August 24, 2009.
Guy Rushin passed away Saturday morning, August 22, 2009, at Hopkins County Memorial Hospital. He was born in Sylvester, on December 5, 1925, the son of Wade S. Rushin and Bertie (Rozell) Rushin. He married Billie Glossup in Sulphur Springs, on September 23, 1945; she survives. Mr. Rushin was a retired supervisor for Experience Works and a member of the Baptist faith. He served in the United States Navy during World War II.
Guy was a singer, songwriter and entertainer. Over the years, Guy and his wife, Billie, performed with Hank Thompson, Bob and Joe Shelton, The Callahan Brothers, David Houston, Hank Lakin, Red Sovine, The Rowe Brothers and many others. Although Guy had worked with some of the country music's greats, he credited his wife, Billie, with having the most influence on his career.
Other survivors include: a daughter, Tracie Lea Chew and husband, Kurt, of Austin; a son, Jeffery Mark Rushin of Huntsville; a sister, Juanita Burgin of Garland; granddaughter, Brittany Lee McDonald and husband, James and great-grandchildren, Jayden Clay McDonald and Jayleigh Grace McDonald. He was preceded in death by a brother, Murrel Rushin and a sister, Mildred Wheeler.
