Graveside service for Grace Evelyn Teel, age 85 of Sulphur Springs, Texas will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, March 22, 2025 at Sulphur Springs City Cemetery. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service from 10:00-11:00 a.m. at Murray-Orwosky Funeral Home in Sulphur Springs, Texas. Mrs. Teel passed away on March 19, 2025 at Carriage House Manor.
Grace was born on July 9, 1939 in Sulphur Springs, Texas to Ben and Mollie Phillips Moncrief. She lost both parents by the age of twelve and was lovingly adopted by her aunt and uncle, Elmer Shade and Lillie May “Madie” (Wilbanks) Moncrief. She attended Sulphur Springs High School and graduated a year early at the age of 16. She was very active in 4-H and represented Texas at the National 4-H Conference in Washington, D.C. in 1958. She attended East Texas State Teachers College (now East Texas A&M University) and obtained her bachelor's degree and master's degree in Education. During college, she met and married Marion Ray Teel of Junction, Texas on May 29, 1959. He was killed in a farm accident in 1980 after a successful high school tennis coaching career.
She taught school for 32 years and loved sharing her travel experiences with her schoolchildren. She would tell vivid stories of visiting the Eiffel Tower, Buckingham Palace, and Pearl Harbor to her students so they had a first-hand glimpse of the sights she had seen. She retired at age 58 so she could enjoy spending time traveling with her children and enjoying her grandchildren. She loved the Lord and was a long-time member of First Baptist Church.
Grace was strong, independent, and lived to help others achieve their potential. She was a 4-H leader who inspired young members to set goals and work hard to reach them. She was especially proud to have three generations of State 4-H record book and Gold Star Award winners. She adored her family and could talk for hours about her grandchildren, especially.
She is survived by her children, Mark Teel (Debbie) of Wylie, Texas, Marion “Monty” Teel (Diana) of Sulphur Springs, Texas, Marla May Jakubisin (Eric) of Arlington, Texas, and Tammy Teel Jones (Dan) of Sulphur Springs, Texas; grandchildren, Lacey Teel, Lauren Teel, Justin Jakubisin, Colton Jakubisin, Megan Jakubisin, Cody Carroll (Abby), and Rylie Carroll.
Grace was preceded in death by her parents, husband, and infant sister Jewel.
Memorials may be made to Sulphur Springs First Baptist Church.
The family would like to thank the loving staff of Carriage House Manor and Choice Hospice.
