Funeral service for Grace Hawkins, age 77, of Sulphur Springs, Texas will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, October 18, 2024 at Murray-Orwosky Funeral Home with Jason Lindley officiating. Interment will follow at Mel Haven Cemetery with Jarred Dunlap, Marcus Johnson, Broderick Godbolt, Shane Stotts, Roderick Godbolt, and Johnny Wright serving as pallbearers. Mrs. Hawkins passed away at her home in Sulphur Springs on Monday, October 14, 2024.
Grace Jo Wade Hawkins, born on September 21, 1947, in Sulphur Springs, Texas, peacefully passed away, leaving behind a legacy of love, strength, and kindness. The daughter of Earnest Wade and Essie Lee Ford, Grace grew up in Sulphur Springs, where she graduated from Douglas High School, forging lifelong friendships and memories.
Grace married the love of her life, Oliver Lee Hawkins, on August 21, 1967. Together, they built a home filled with warmth, laughter, and cherished moments. Their enduring love stood as a testament to their shared values of family, faith, and perseverance. As a devoted mother to her two sons, Rodney Hawkins and Jameison Hawkins (Melissa), Grace's love for her children knew no bounds. She took great pride in raising them with care, dedication, and endless affection.
Grace was also blessed with three grandchildren: Tayler Hawkins, Jaylon Hawkins, and Rodney Hawkins Jr. (Keshai), along with two great-grandchildren, Kalila and Keslyn. Her grandchildren and great-grandchildren brought her immense joy, and she treasured every moment spent with them. She is survived by her brother, L.J. Wade (Tonya), her sister, Bunnie Wade, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
Grace had a deep love for cooking and often delighted family and friends with her culinary creations, bringing them together around the table. She cherished long phone conversations, relishing the opportunity to share stories and connect deeply with her loved ones. For 25 years, Grace dedicated herself to the healthcare profession in food service, embodying her passion for caring for others.
Christmas was her favorite holiday, a time when she truly shone. Grace loved decorating her home, creating a warm and festive atmosphere, and hosting family gatherings filled with laughter and love. She took great joy in preparing special meals and selecting thoughtful gifts, making every Christmas a cherished celebration for her loved ones.
Her family and friends were everything to her, and she had a unique gift for making everyone feel like they were part of her family. Grace nurtured deep connections, always offering her support, love, and a listening ear. She cherished every moment spent with loved ones, creating lasting memories that brought joy and warmth to their lives.
Grace’s gentle spirit touched the lives of everyone she encountered. Her kindness and compassion were unwavering, and she will be remembered for her love of family, friends, and community. She leaves a profound impact on all who had the privilege of knowing her. Grace will be deeply missed, but her memory will forever remain in the hearts of her loved ones.
She was preceded in death by her parents, two brothers, Earnest Wade Jr. and A.B. Wade Sr., an infant sister, and her sister, Leista Wade, along with other beloved family members.
Her beloved adoptive daughter, LaTonya Hawkins, was a constant source of love and support throughout her life. The family extends special thanks to Kristi Hill, EmmaLee Spivey, Cameron & Danielle Bonner, and Chambers Hospice for their compassionate care.
